DIURNO
2024
“Diurno” is a collaborative exhibition presented during Milan Design Week 2024, developed within Studio di Pittura, an exhibition format curated by Gianmaria Sforza.
For this edition, Panter&Tourron and video artist and director Davide Rapp were invited to transform the octagonal space with a site-specific installation, bringing together a collection of original furniture and lighting with a never-before-seen video work.
The project is an invitation to take a break from the intensity of Milan Design Week: a speakeasy-style secret lounge where guests can relax in an atmosphere oscillating between nostalgia and science fiction. The space becomes a suspended interior: part lounge, part stage, and part cinematic environment.
In a hybrid dimension between living room and passage room, the installation presents a bespoke limited-edition collection of furniture and lighting conceived by Panter&Tourron specifically for the occasion. Inspired by hospitality environments, the series features six archetypal works: a modular sofa platform, a tubular floor lamp, an ultralight chandelier, mirrored stools and vases, and a series of screen shelves.
Referencing communal interiors such as entrance halls, lobbies, and lounges, the pieces function as elements of reenactment, questioning the evolution of these spaces and our relationship to collective interiors today. The typical distance between guests, for instance, is reduced by lowering the seating elements closer to the floor and creating an uninterrupted platform, a gesture that echoes customs more common in non-Western cultures. Other elements behave as architectural additions rather than individual objects, interacting with the room through light, reflection, and transparency.
